Best Photoshoot Locations in the Phoenix East Valley

From greenery to desert views, these are my favorite spots for family and senior portraits.

As a senior and family photographer in the Phoenix East Valley, I’m often asked:

“Where’s the best place for our photos?”

Thankfully, this part of Arizona is packed with gorgeous options—from lush greenery to wide-open desert views.

Whether you’re based in Gilbert, Chandler, or Mesa, here are some of my favorite portrait session spots (plus a few hidden gems!).

Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch

Location: Gilbert, AZ

This is one of my favorite East Valley portrait locations—it has it all: water, winding trails, tall grasses, and even a cactus garden.

If you’re a photographer, be sure to scout the area in the same season you plan to shoot—it changes often.
Bonus: it’s beautiful year-round, especially during golden hour.
This is a great option for families or seniors in North Gilbert.

Veterans Oasis Park

Location: Chandler, AZ

Veterans Oasis Park in Chandler is another local favorite with a slightly different desert vibe. You’ll find mountain views, a citrus grove, lakes, and even purple cactus varieties.

It’s beautiful year-round and works well for both family sessions and senior portraits—especially if you’re located near South Chandler.

Desert Botanical Garden

Location: Phoenix, AZ

If you’re dreaming of portraits with that iconic Arizona desert backdrop, this might be the perfect spot.

With rocky mountain views, cactus gardens, butterflies, desert blooms, and towering saguaros—all beautifully curated in one place—it’s a photographer’s dream.
There is an entrance fee, but the scenery makes it more than worth it for milestone moments or branding sessions.

Nichols Park

Location: Gilbert, AZ

This one is a hidden gem in Gilbert with soft grasses, tall trees, and lots of open space.

The best part? It won't be super packed like some of the more popular locations. A great find for a consistent, relaxed look.

Coon Bluff

Location: Mesa, AZ

If you are longing for water in your portraits, this might be just the right fit. Looking for wild and adventure? This one has it.

Coon Bluff is right along the Salt River, offers views of the desert, towering cliffs, and sometimes even wild horses.

Perfect for seniors, teens, or families who love Arizona’s untamed side.
Make sure to grab a Tonto Pass before heading out to this beautiful location.

Downtown Gilbert

Location: Gilbert, AZ

Looking for something more urban with a fun local vibe?

Downtown Gilbert is full of character—colorful murals, exposed brick, string lights, cool storefronts, a water tower, and more. It’s especially popular for senior sessions and branding portraits, and it’s a great spot if you want something stylish, modern, and a little unexpected.

We can stroll, laugh, and capture your story in the heart of the Heritage District.

Other Great East Valley Locations I Recommend:

  • San Tan Mountain Regional Park (Queen Creek): Beautiful desert landscape with mountain backdrops and wide-open skies.

  • Usery Mountain Regional Park (Mesa): A personal favorite for golden light and dramatic cacti.

  • Mansel Carter Oasis Park (Queen Creek): Gorgeous walking trails, a small lake, and lush areas for families.

  • Freestone Park (Gilbert): Ideal for more relaxed or candid sessions with littles in tow.

  • Lost Dutchman State Park (Apache Junction): Majestic mountain views—especially dreamy at sunrise.

Whether you're drawn to grassy fields, desert sunsets, or murals downtown, there’s a perfect spot for your portraits right here in the East Valley.
